Congrats to our local Gort Tidy Towns/Gort River Walk groups for publishing a Gort local area Biodiversity plan. This biodiversity plan is one of six that came about as a result of the 2021 Community Biodiversity Training and Awareness Programe delivered by the Burrenbeo Trust and funded by Galway Rural Development.
The objective of the Gort Biodiversity plan is to promote awareness and develop actions that will help to enhance and protect existing habitats and establish new ones.
Several participants from both groups attended Biodiversity workshops and developed an overall plan for the area. The plan including protecting and enhancing natural habitats, following the all-Ireland Pollinator plan, tackling invasive species, visual improvements to the town and promotion of waste reduction and recycling.
